Logan Canyon

This trip started out on a chilly Sunday morning. We had intended to go on Saturday morning, but we woke up to SNOW & decided to postpone the trip. Although it was still pretty cold (high of 50 we believe!)being the hard core bikers that we are (did I say WE???) we bundled up & started out.

We had been invited to ride with the Hog group from Pocatello on their trip through Logan Canyon, but they weren't planning to get back until late that night, so we chose to go on our own.

By the time we got to Pocatello, we were ready to stop & warm up. After getting warm & buying a pair of gloves we were off. We rode through Downey where Mel's family is from. Then through Preston & took the 5 minute tour of the great Napoleon Dynamite town! A quick warm up & Hot Chocolate stop in Franklin & we were on the road again until we finally made it to Logan.

We rode around Logan for awhile looking at the beautiful sites. We stopped at the Hastings for more Hot Chocolate & wandered around looking at books & music until we had warmed up.

We were now ready to head through Logan Canyon. The day was starting to warm up. It was still a little chilly but not unbearable. The country side was breathtaking. The trees were changing. They were red, orange & yellow and some almost looked pink. When we got to the look out at Bear Lake the sky was completely blue & clear. The lake was still & beautiful blue. We wanted to stay longer & look at the lake, but we had to get back home before the kids got there. One last stop for Hot Chocolate in Montpelier & we were headed home through Soda Springs & Lava Hot Springs. We wandered through a couple shops in Lava & wished we had time to warm up in the hot pools but time had gotten away from us & it was time to go home.

COUER d' ALENE

So, my loving niece has told me that the blog is "Corney" & Mel & I are "Cute". This coming from a 19 year old beauty queen, newly wed. She & Mason have been married 3 months & she thinks she can give me love advise. (I'm the married one she told me!) HA!

Corney or not I'm ready to tell of our next road trip. We started out early Friday morning on Labor Day weekend, for Couer d' Alene. Never been there myself, but have heard many times how beautiful it is, so I was very excited. Mel's grandparents live near Couer d' Alene & we were meeting his parents & sisters there. I hadn't met any of Mel's family yet, so this was quite an adventure for me. Nervous doesn't even begin to describe the nausea growing inside me. But I'm a trooper & was pleased that Mel had asked me to go with him & wanted his family to meet me.

We went up past Idaho Falls to Salmon, where we ran into some friends while getting fuel & Frank warned us that we better get our rain gear on. We laughed off the advise & got back on the road. By the time we got to North Fork it was starting to cloud up & get cold. We stopped at a little store & put on our hoody's & jackets (just in case). A little further down the road the rain came. We tied up our hoods & cussed Frank for cursing us! A little wet but none worse for the wear, we rode on.

Our first major stop of the day was at the Missoula Harley Davidson shop. WOW!! Huge doesn't begin to describe it! This store was amazing! We had alot of fun looking & planning how to fix up the Harley.

We got to Mel's grandparents house about 6 that evening. (I think we made pretty good time, since we didn't leave home till about 9:30 that morning!) Meeting the family was out of the way, so now we could relax & enjoy the trip.

Northern Idaho is a total different world than Southern Idaho! It looked as if we had entered a different state. Southern Idaho is more flat, desert & sage brush. Northern Idaho has mountain & pine trees galore. It was breathtaking! Everyday we went riding. There was so much to see! We rode into Couer d' Alene & rode around the lake. It was amazing!
The Lake is the most beautiful blue & the homes were out of this world! Great spacious homes- the next larger than the last!

Since we were so close to Spokane, WA, we had hoped to visit the Harley shop there. But Washington is a helmet state so we weren't sure how we were going to make this happen. We were in a motorcycle store one afternoon & mentioned this to one of the salesman. He offered to let us borrow a couple of his helmets for the trip. This was way too cool! He wouldn't even accept a deposit, just asked if we were honest people. We were off to Spokane! The store was well worth the effort! We had far too much fun & spent way too much money!

The weekend went far too fast but is a memory we will never forget. After many good-bye & tons of photo's it was time to head for home. (see our pics from our Couer d' Alene trip at:)

First Road Trip

Let's start with our first road trip. It was our first date & the plan was to head to Sun Valley for the day but it ended up being a little more adventurous than planned. We started the morning by stopping at the Harley shop in Twin Falls. If you haven't had the opportunity to see the Twin Falls Harley shop you are missing out. It is a beautiful store with a huge selection of everything you can imagine Harley.

We then had to find a place to pick up a cheap pair of sunglasses since this Harley Virgin lost hers on the freeway! Back on the road we found ourselves on the road to Ketchum & looking for shelter from the rain which soon turned into a down pour. We had earlier seen some awesome lighting strike the mountains. While we were in Ketchum, fire engines from all over were flying past to the fire that the lighting had started.

The next stop of the day was in Sun Valley when we had to pull over to the side of the road to clean the Harley from the rain. Now that the rain had stopped we could really enjoy the ride & all of the beautiful scenery surrounding us. Just before Stanley we rode to Red Fish Lake. The water was completely calm & the most breathtaking crystal clear blue you've seen!

After lunch in Stanley our next destination was Challis & rode along the Salmon River. By this time it was obvious to both of us that this day would end with more than a joy ride. We stopped at Willow Creek Summit to look at Mt. Bora, which is the tallest mountain in Idaho (12662). After spending the entire day together innocently teasing & flirting we finally had our first kiss. A moment neither of us will soon forget.

Our next stop was Craters of the Moon. This was an amazing park with incredible lava flows. We hiked (or I should say, Mel hiked & pulled me) up a Cinder Mound. What a gorgeous view we found at the top. Well worth the climb. By this time it was getting late evening & we decided it was time to head home.

When we got back to my house we both agreed that it was such a wonderful day & we enjoyed each others company so much that we planned another Harley trip. To be continued......

How the ride began.....

Our adventure began on May 3, 2007 when a very nice pair of Levi 501's walked into my life! When Mel walked into my office that day, I didn't realize that he was walking into my world. But as he walked out of my office, I couldn't help but stare at his ass & thought to myself 'Damn those are a nice pair of Levi's"! I wasn't aware that he too felt the attraction & was amazed at how often we "bumped" into each other.

One day as I was stumbling for something to say he mentioned that he had just bought a Harley & showed me a picture. It was truly the most beautiful bike I had ever seen! After a long argument with myself I finally got the nerve to offer myself a ride. Well, my ride turned into a 500+ mile day trip that was amazing! I had never seen such gorgeous countryside & everything is so much brighter & beautiful on the back of a motorcycle! By the end of the day it was obvious that the attraction was mutual & we have been attached at the hip ever since!

Since we both work for the same government agency & we both have 3 kids (yes we are the modern day Brady Bunch!!) our road trips take place on the weekends our sextuplets are with the ex's. This Blog will be about our adventures on the open road & where this budding relationship is going. We would love to hear about your trips & where you think we might enjoy going next.

The next time we post, we'll tell you about the adventures we've taken so far to Sun Valley & Craters of the Moon, Couer 'd Alene, West Yellowstone & Logan Canyon. There are plenty of pictures we want to share & show off why IDAHO is the best place to live!
